In Poland, an ongoing trial may well relegate lampposts to oblivion.

What is it about ?
It is in a park on the outskirts of the city of Lidzbark that an unprecedented experiment takes place: a 100-meter bike path was illuminated, not thanks to bulbs or leds, but thanks to thousands of crystals coated with luminescent particles!

This high-tech track has been developed by the engineers of the Technological Research Institute (TPA) and can stay lit for more than 10 hours. It is also completely ecological because it is not polluting and it consumes no external energy.

On the other hand, this Polish track is inspired by a similar track in the Netherlands, in the region where Van Gogh originates, and whose name pays tribute to it because it is nicknamed after its famous painting, the " starry Night ".

How it works ?
These particles are the phosphors. They charge energy throughout the day thanks to the sun's rays and they start to shine after dark, lighting the track to guide cyclists, free to drive at any time and safely.

This pisa is for the moment only at the test stage because it takes time to measure the effectiveness of the device as well as its reaction to the weather factor.

An already well known concept
This concept of absorption and restitution of light is well known, it is phosphorescence. Many objects of our daily life are phosphorescent. We can cite for example the needles of the alarm clocks or the stars that were stuck to the ceiling as a child.


What future for these tracks?
Manufacturers are currently conducting studies to try to reduce the production costs of this device, because it has for the moment a small flat, its cost is much higher than that required for the construction of a conventional track.
